A three-hour trial flight was recently completed at Yutian Wanfang Airport in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, indicating that the airport is ready for service and will open on schedule by the end of this year.
The trial flight was intended to test flight procedures, road conditions, traffic signs and markings and lighting systems as well as other supporting facilities of the airport.
Located in the Hotan prefecture, the airport was a main poverty-alleviation project supported by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
It is designed to handle 180,000 passengers and 400 tons of freight annually.
Once operable, the airport will contribute to improving traffic condition in affected areas, consolidating poverty-alleviation achievements and boosting regional economic growth.
Airport Construction Engineering Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited, participated in construction of the airport.
