First High-Speed Railway through Taihang Mountains Enters Service

Updated: December 18, 2020

The Zhengzhou-Taiyuan high-speed railway linking Henan and Shanxi provinces went into operation on Dec 12, shortening travel time between the two capitals to less than three hours.

With a maximum operation speed of 250 kilometers per hour, the 432-kilometer railway is the first of its kind to wind through the Taihang Mountains.

Its Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo section opened for service on June 26, 2015. The newly operated section from Jiaozuo to Taiyuan is 372 kilometers and has 12 stations.

Innovative engineering systems like China's most advanced transport system for railway construction and a smart engineering facility management system were used during construction, which made procedures more efficient.

Many subsidiaries of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) participated in the project.

The Zhengzhou-Taiyuan high-speed railway is a main section connecting Hohhot in North China's Inner Mongolia and Nanning in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and is a part of China's planned "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network of medium and long railways.

Its operation is expected to widen Taiyuan and Zhengzhou's impact on surrounding areas and to boost development of Central China.
