The second ship lock project of the Guigang shipping hub in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region recently opened for service.
The project is expected to play a key role in improving 100 million tons of shipping capacity on the Xijiang River, a main stream of the Pearl River.
Based on the first ship lock, the project included construction of a 3,000-ton ship lock which is 280 meters long and 34 meters wide.
The annual one-way throughput capacity of the project is expected to be about 31 million tons and the total throughput capacity is estimated to be 43 million tons.
Operation of the project will improve navigation conditions of the Xijiang River, which will boost development of industry agglomeration in affected areas and attract industries in the eastern region to settle in Guangxi.
It will also promote construction of the Pearl River-Xijiang economic zone.
CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC), participated in the construction of the project.
