China's First Alpine Ski Jumping Training, Research Base Goes into Operation

Updated: December 14, 2020

The first phase of the national alpine ski jumping training and scientific research base in Laiyuan, North China's Hebei province, recently went into operation.

Contracted by China Railway 16th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), the base is one of the national winter sports training bases for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

It is also the world's largest ski jumping resort cluster equipped with China's only high-tech wind tunnel for training.

Designed to cover an area of 51.8 hectares, the base is to be built in three phases. The first phase, already in operation, included construction of the racing track, horizontal wind tunnel laboratory, snow-making system, cable car system, supporting roads and municipal engineering facilities.

The base will be an ideal platform for athletes' training and is expected to build Laiyuan into an international ice and snow town, which will boost integrated development of local sports and tourism industries.
