CNOOC Finds First Large and Medium-sized Condensate Oil and Gas Field in Eastern South China Sea

Updated: July 03, 2020

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on June 29 that the HZ26-6-1 well in the Huizhou 26-6 in the eastern part of the South China Sea, with a total depth of 4,276 meters, is estimated to be capable of producing about 2,020 barrels of crude oil and 15.36 million cubic feet (430,000 cubic meters) of natural gas per day on average.

The discovery is expected to make the Huizhou 26-6 the first large and medium-sized condensate oil and gas field in the shallow waters of the Pearl River estuary basin.

The successful exploration of the Huizhou 26-6 marked the first time that CNOOC discovered high-yield oil and gas flow for commercial use in the new area of the buried hills in the eastern part of the South China Sea.
