The Luzhou natural gas chemical plant in Southwest China's Sichuan Province reached its production goals of 100,000 tons of synthesis ammonia and 160,000 tons of urea annually from 1964 to 1966.
The synthesizer, built by China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd (CNCEC), was China's first facility producing fertilizer with imported technology and its first large-scale fertilizer project.
Launched in December 1976, the chemical plant was also the first chemical enterprise in China to use natural gas as a raw material to produce synthesis ammonia and urea via western-imported technology.
