China's first self-designed and constructed sixth generation deep-water semi-submarine drilling platform - HAI YANG SHI YOU 981 - was launched on Feb 26, 2010.
Invested and built by China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the platform integrated the top design concepts and equipment in the world and has strong typhoon resistance.
It has been registered in both the China Classification Society (CCS) and the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
Its completion was proof that China has independent research and development capacity in ocean engineering equipment and has gained international competitiveness.
