The 1,000 kV southeastern Shanxi-Nanyang-Jingmen ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternating current (AC) demonstration project was completed and went into operation on Jan 6, 2009.
With proprietary intellectual property rights, the project has the world's highest operating voltage and the most advanced technologies.
It was also the first 1,000 kV power transmission line to begin commercial service in the world.
