Hao Peng, Secretary of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) Party Committee and Chairman of SASAC, attended the fourth Belt and Road Summit on Sept 11 in Hong Kong, at which he delivered a keynote speech.
SASAC and Chinese central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) will actively respond to President Xi Jinping's call to seize the major opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative, strive to give Hong Kong's unique advantages full play, and promote the BRI's achieving a deeper and more practical level of significance for steady progress and far-reaching outcomes, according to his speech. The two sides will work together to make the future of Hong Kong more prosperous and stable, he added.

Hao said that President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013 based on building a community with a shared future for mankind.Over the past six years, central SOEs have actively responded to the initiative and are fully using their advantages to build a number of leading major and hallmark projects, focusing on economic empowerment, mutual benefit, win-win results, and sustainable development. They have become an important force driving the Belt and Road Initiative to progress from concept and vision to actions and reality.
Hao emphasized that Hong Kong, as an important international financial, trade and shipping center and possessor of what is recognized as the freest economy in the world, plays an important and unique role for central SOEs in Belt and Road construction.
SASAC and central SOEs are willing to work together with all parties to make full use of Hong Kong's advantages under the "one country, two systems" policy as a matured service sector and an international innovation and technology center. They will take up the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction opportunity to achieve new collaboration in reform and opening-up and major projects and innovation-driven development to construct a world-class bay area. SASAC and central SOEs will strive to enrich the BRI and promote Hong Kong's economic and social prosperity and development.

During the Summit, Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and heads of the SAR government departments held a meeting with SASAC and central SOEs delegation.
Lam said SASAC and central SOEs senior executives' participation in the fourth Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong reflected their support for the Hong Kong SAR government and added that she hopes Hong Kong enterprises and Chinese central SOEs will join hands in construction of the BRI and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
Hao introduced the development of central SOEs in Hong Kong and said SASAC and central SOEs resolutely support the implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy and the Chief Executive and the Hong Kong SAR Government's administration and its actions and will firmly back up Hong Kong in developing its economy and improving people's livelihoods, unite all patriotic people and work together to create for a more stable and prosperous future.
