Updated: May 07, 2019

On April 22 and 23, Ren Hongbin, Vice Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), attended and addressed Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Manila Conference in the Philippines. The BFA session, themed "Concerted Action for Common Development in the New Era", was attended by BFA Vice-Chairman Zhou Xiaochuan, House Speaker and former President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, and over 500 guests including representatives from China Telecom, COSCO SHIPPING Group, and China General Technology and other Chinese central state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Ren said in his speech that Chinese central SOEs have worked actively under the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, participated in the Philippines' infrastructure projects on power, transport, and water conservancy, and contributed to local economic and social development as well as people's livelihood. In the future, SASAC and Chinese central SOEs will continue to follow important consensuses reached by the heads of state of the two countries, seize new opportunities in the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Philippines' Build, Build, Build program, and carry out more practical cooperation in trade and investment, technology innovation, and SOE reform and governance, in order to expand China-Philippines economic and trade ties and make greater contributions to economic development in Asia and the world.

Representatives of Chinese central SOEs also spoke at the plenary session and business dialogue. They talked about the achievements of China's SOE reform and development, and expressed wishes for win-win outcomes and mutual development in seeking new opportunities in China-Philippines collaborations.

During his visit, Ren met with Samuel G. Dagpin, Jr., Chairman of Governance Commission for GOCCs of the Philippines. They discussed the potential to establish a mechanism for communication and cooperation on state ownership and SOEs.
