China COSCO Shipping Group acquired 67% shares of the Greek port of Piraeus on Apr 9, 2016. The acquisition was approved by the Greek Parliament. The Port of Piraeus is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean region and the closest western port adjacent to the Suez Canal. It has become a transit hub for Chinese container ships exporting from Asia to Europe.
