The Chashma nuclear power plant in Pakistan resulted from cooperation between China and Pakistan. It is known as an excellent example of South-South cooperation.
It officially started generating power on Jun 13, 2000, meaning that the nation was better able to independently design, manufacture and construct nuclear power stations.
Responsible for overall design of the plant, the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute solved the key technical problems such as soft soil foundation and seismic intensity on the basis of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. The company improved the design according to the international advanced standards for nuclear power safety, effectively ensuringthe units' safety, reliability and economy.
