The first Sino-foreign joint venture car off the assembly line

On Nov 20, 1990, the joint venture project between FAW and Volkswagen to make 150,000 cars in China was officially signed at the Great Hall of the People. It marked a new development period of the nation's automobile industry, featuring high starting point, large volume and specialization. On Dec 5, 1991, the first domestically-produced Jetta A2 was assembled at the FAW-Volkswagen car factory.
