China's first program-controlled digital telephone network

In May 1985, a program-controlled digital telephone network able to connect tens of thousands of users gained formal acceptance in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province. The network was introduced by Xiamen from overseas, making the city the first one wholly covered by a program-controlled digital telephone network. The event marked the rapid development of the communication industry in China.
