CSCEC boosts Africa’s urbanization

Updated: September 03, 2018

China’s friendship with Africa has been further strengthened through economic aids. China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), China’s largest construction and real estate conglomerate, has been in charge of more than 200 African projects.

CSCEC has businesses in 51 countries in Africa, and is in charge of a group of significant national projects in those countries, largely improving African modernization. Within five years, the company has signed projects worth $20.5 billion dollars with Africa, in areas of economy, people’s livelihood and culture, and has built highways, ports and airports, expanding African land, sea and air transportation.

The Conference Center of African Union, which was put into use in 2012, is China’s largest project for aiding Africa, after Tanzania Zambia Railway construction. The following operation, maintenance and technical support of the center are also undertaken by CSCEC.

The persistence, outstanding engineering quality and localized operation contribute to CSCEC’s great achievements in Africa. Chen Wenjian, General Manager of the company’s overseas affairs and President of China State Construction International Holdings Limited, said the Belt and Road Initiative would make more dreams come true via the joint efforts of Africa and China.

More than 100,000 sets of affordable housing are available in Algeria. A large number of employments are provided for the locals, except for several management and technical positions.

Moreover, the company joins hands with local partners to take part in African construction. Together with local and European sub-suppliers, CSCEC completed the Great Mosque of Algeria, achieving win-win development with its partners.

Congo (Brazzaville) National Highway No 1, the largest project between China and the Republic of Congo and a crucial project made in the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, was completed on March 1, 2016. The locals call it “the road of dream”. The highway reduces the one-week travelling time from Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire to six hours.

CSCEC has taken eight years in getting through the economic line between Congo’s capital and its economic center, overcoming hard geographic conditions of coastal plain, primitive forest, river valley and plateau. The 536-kilometer highway is spoken highly of by the President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso.

CSCEC also targets establishing urban landmarks and enhancing urbanization in Africa. Residential, commercial, medical, cultural, municipal and other public facilities are built to advance comprehensive urban development.

The central business district of Egypt's new administrative capital is the most important project for Egyptian government, taking up 505,000 square meters. CSCEC is planning to build Africa’s tallest architecture that is 345 meters in height, and commercial office buildings, high-rise apartments, luxury hotels and other municipal facilities.
