Hao Peng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), visited Kenya's Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development during an inspection visit to the branches of Chinese central SOEs in Kenya on Aug 7.

Hao Peng had a meeting with James Macharia, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary of Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, and they exchanged ideas on the cooperation between Chinese and Kenyan enterprises and the progress of projects.

Macharia briefed on the main functions of the ministry and the country's achievements in railway, highway, aviation, port and housing as well as the administration's Big Four Agenda of developing food security, cheaper housing, manufacturing and universal health insurance.

Kenya's transport development has benefited from the participation of Chinese central SOEs, especially from the China Communications Construction Company-built Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), which has not only promoted the country's economic and social development, but also helped Kenyan people realize their centennial dream, Macharia said.

He said Kenya is actively responding to the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed his warm welcome for Chinese central SOEs to invest in Kenya and join in the major project construction such as the second phase of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR.

He said he hopes the China-Kenya cooperation would be continuously deepened and the Big Four Agenda of the Kenyan government would soon be realized through joint venture, contracted construction, skill training and experience sharing.

Hao briefed Macharia on the main functions of SASAC and the basic information of Chinese central SOEs.

SASAC and Chinese central SOEs are unremittingly implementing the consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on the relations and strategic cooperation between the two countries, and vigorously strengthening the cooperation in infrastructure construction and many other fields, in particular, with the strong support of Kenya's Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Chinese central SOEs are making positive contribution to the building of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR, Mombasa Port and Mombasa Special Economic Zone to forge a new "trinity" cooperation pattern by taking the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR project as the lead, Hao noted.

He appreciated the Big Four Agenda proposed by Kenyan government, adding that with the guidance of the two states' top leaders, SASAC and Chinese central SOEs would adhere to the principle of wide consultation, jointed contribution and shared benefits and play an active role in the construction of major projects including the second phase of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR and the Mombasa special economic zone, further strengthen the two country's exchanges and interaction, and deepen cooperation in investment, energy, economy and trade to help integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with Kenya's Big Four Agenda and strive to promote the building of a community with shared future for mankind.

Sun Baohong, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya also attended the event, as did related SASAC officials.
