Shanghai demonstration maglev train line, the first of its kind commercially operated anywhere in the world, opens to public on Dec 31

The Shanghai demonstration maglev train line went into service on Dec 31, becoming the world's first commercial service of its kind.

Contracted by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the 29.863 km line has a maximum operation speed of 431 km/h, the fastest of the land public transport vehicles.

With advantages like high speed, safety and punctuality as well as passenger-friendly services, the line has safely transported more than 50 million people over 17 million km.

First bucket of uranium produced in the Husab Uranium Mine in Namibia on Dec 31, 2016

The Husab Uranium Mine in Namibia, jointly purchased by CGNPC Uranium Resources Co, Ltd and the China-Africa Development Fund, produced its first bucket of uranium on Dec 31, 2016.

The uranium project is currently one of China's most valuable individual investments in Africa and has the largest production facility scale in the world so far.

With rich uranium resource reserves ranking third globally, the mine guarantees uranium supply to China and brings Namibia great economic and social benefits.
