No. 1 and 2 hydroelectric generating sets of the Gezhouba project pass inspection on Dec 27, 1981

The No. 1 and 2 hydroelectric generating sets developed by Dongfang Electric Corporation for the Gezhouba project passed inspection on Dec 27, 1981.

With installed capacity of 170,000 kW, the sets were completely developed domestically and had the largest diameter of their kind in the world at that time.

In addition, they were the largest low water head roller paddle-type hydroelectric generating units.

Completion of their development was proof that China's hydropower equipment manufacturing capacity had reached an internationally leading level.

First China-developed large-diameter full-face TBM starts operation on Dec 27, 2014

The first China-made large-diameter full-face tunnel boring machine (TBM) went into operation in Changsha, Hunan Province, on Dec 27, 2014.

Completely developed by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited under the national high-tech R&D program (863 Program), the machine completed digging a 22.6-km tunnel for a water supply engineering project 14 months ahead of schedule. The project was to divert water in the Songhua River to cities in central Jilin Province.

The digging period was the shortest in China at that time among similar construction projects.

The development of the machine promoted China's modern tunnel engineering equipment and technical skills to a higher level.

World's first new energy power station with VSG functions completed on Dec 27, 2017

The world's first new energy power station featuring virtual synchronous machine (VSG) functions was installed in a national wind-solar storage and transmission demonstration power plant on Dec 27, 2017.

Jointly developed by many units including the State Grid Corporation of China and the China Electric Power Research Institute, the station was proof that China had mastered core technology of grid connections in a new energy-friendly power station.

The project promoted safety and stability of the power grid and was significant to the construction of renewable energy demonstration zone in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province.
