Conson No 1, which is expected to be the world's first 100,000-metric-ton smart fish-farming ship, was delivered in Qingdao, East China's Shandong Province, on May 20.
Built by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the ship was specially developed for Qingdao Conson Development (Group) Co., Ltd. and constitutes a breakthrough in development of the country's large-scale deep-sea fish farming ship industry.
Dubbed a "movable marine ranch", the ship is key equipment for long-term deep-sea movable breeding in China and can effectively avoid natural disasters like typhoons and red tides, etc.

With an investment of about 450 million yuan ($67.5 million), the 249.9-meter-long ship has a displacement of 130,000 tons and features 15 aquaculture tanks with total capacity of nearly 90,000 cubic meters.
Construction of the ship started in December 2020. It was launched in January 2022 and completed sea trials between April 30 and May 5 in the Yellow Sea waters with outstanding performances in 48 ship and aquaculture equipment tests. Experts from the China Classification Society and the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research participated in the tests and spoke highly of the ship.
The project attained more than 60 technological achievements and has led to applications for over 40 patents.
