NORINCO Group-Developed Device Plays a Role in Chinese Expedition to Top of Mount Qomolangma

Updated: 2022-05-24

The microwave radiometer developed by North Sky. Dome Information Technology (Xi'an) Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO Group), has played a role in a Chinese expedition's success in reaching the top of Mount Qomolangma.

The team of Chinese scientists reached 8,000 meters above sea level on May 4, the first time a Chinese expedition had reached that height, which is of great significance in scientific research on the Tibetan Plateau.

The high-altitude area has complicated and changeable weather systems, calling for special and high requirements for meteorological instruments.

A special sub-team was included in the expedition to undertake meteorological research by using high-tech equipment such as a radiosonde system, laser wind radar and a microwave radiometer. The sub-team also needed to carry out extreme weather monitoring and broadcasting based on real-time data to guarantee safety and smooth progress.

The microwave radiometer is an advanced ground-based remote sensing meteorological instrument with independent intellectual property rights. So far, nearly 100 sets of the instruments have been set up in China.
