China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has established a functional department at its headquarters to specially focus on work related to social responsibilities, rural vitalization and aiding the Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions and Qinghai Province.
It makes CTG the first central state-owned enterprise in China to establish such a department in its headquarters.

Yin Gefei, chief expert of GoldenBee Think Tank and secretary of ISO 26000 Stakeholders Global Network, who has long been concerned about and studied corporate social responsibility (CSR), pointed out that the launch of the social responsibility department in the headquarters reflects that CTG has a clearer understanding and positioning of the importance of fulfilling its social responsibility, and indicates the company's determination to take action for that purpose.

Actually, CTG had already set up a Social Responsibility Leading Group in 2007, concentrating on work related to social responsibility, especially poverty alleviation.
Over the past three decades, CTG has been pioneering in social responsibility projects and gained rich experience.
For example, the company has played a backbone role in environmental protection of the Yangtze River areas with a project that has covered 11 provincial-level regions within three years with a total investment of 187.65 billion yuan ($27.73 billion).
So far, the sewage treatment capacity that CTG has in the affected areas has reached nearly 3.09 million cubic meters per day, benefiting 23 million people living in an area of 46,000 square kilometers.
The company has broadly supported national strategies such as poverty alleviation and rural vitalization.
