Uzbekistan's Largest Power Plant Project Makes Key Advance

Updated: 2022-05-16

Installation of the main body of the 1.5-gigawatt combined cycle gas turbine power plant project in Syr Darya, the largest of its kind in Uzbekistan, was started on May 5 as the first steel structure was hoisted.

The project was contracted by the consortium of China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd.

Located in Shirin county of the Syr Darya region, the power plant is about 150 kilometers from Tashkent, capital city of Uzbekistan.

Covering an area of 75 hectares, the project is the first IPP project and the largest power plant project in the country, and the most advanced 9H-class combustion turbine project in the world.

It is equipped with gas turbines with the world's highest combustion temperature, the largest unit power and the highest efficiency and meets the zero-waste water release standard.

The project is scheduled to be put into operation at the end of 2023.

Once operational, it is expected to provide more than 36 million kilowatt-hours of power to the local power grid per day, which will benefit millions of residents in the country.
