COSCO SHIPPING Group Guarantees Supply Chain Logistics Amid Pandemic

Updated: 2022-05-12

China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group) opened several transport services during this year's COVID-19 outbreak to guarantee supply chain logistics and support resumption of production.

At present, the company ensures more than 1,400 of its ships and 58 ports as well as global routes in normal operation around the world.

In recent weeks, the barge shipment quantity of the company in the Yangtze River Delta region increased by more than 20 percent and the container handling capacity has been up nearly 80 percent year-on-year.

Since the end of March, the company has transported more than 5,500 metric tons of daily necessities, medical supplies and construction materials for makeshift hospital construction from Central China's Hubei and Hunan provinces, East China's Anhui, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shandong, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, and Northeast China's Liaoning Province to Shanghai municipality.

Meanwhile, it has also provided logistics service for export of electronic products, home appliances, and photovoltaic and steel materials, as well as import of agricultural products, fruits, wood, mineral products, high-end manufacturing equipment, electronic components and automobile parts.

The company also contributed to stable operation of industrial production line, energy supply and goods transport amid the pandemic.

For example, Shanghai PANASIA Shipping Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Group focusing on domestic trade service, joined hands with the company's branch in Rizhao, Shandong, allocating 13 shipments and developing transfer courses to ensure transport of nearly 8,000 TEUs of raw materials for a large steel and iron company in the Beibu Gulf. The service guaranteed stable operation of the industrial production line in the region.

Huanghua Port, the second-largest channel of west-to-east coal transmission project and a key hub of the north-to-south coal transmission project, plays a key role in the country's energy supply.

As one of the top 10 fishing ports in China, Bohe Fishing Port in Maoming, South China's Guangdong Province, welcomes harvest from mid-March to May each year. The seafood is normally sent to Northeast, North and East China through cold chain transport.

However, the pandemic impacted transport this year. COSCO SHIPPING Group's branch in Zhanjiang surveyed the traders, buyers and logistic agencies and gave out several marine transport passages. Thanks to the efforts, the first 1,500 tons of seafood in Bohe had been successfully delivered to buyers.
