CNNC Inaugurates Carbon-14 Isotopes Production with Commercial Reactor

Updated: 2022-05-12

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)'s Qinshan No. 3 Nuclear Power Plant in East China's Zhejiang Province inaugurated the world's first carbon-14 radioactive isotopes in a commercial reactor on April 26.

The plant is scheduled to provide carbon-14 radioactive isotopes to the market in 2024. Production capacity is expected to fully meet domestic demand.

A breakthrough in the production of isotopes for medical purposes, the production is expected to address the problem of domestic supply of carbon-14 isotopes. It will contribute to building a demonstration base for nuclear technology application, establish a stable and independent medical isotope supply, drive the development of the isotope application industry chain and improve people's health.
