CSSC Launches New-Type FPSO Ship

Updated: 2022-05-05

A 460,000-metric ton new-type Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) ship was launched on April 13.

It is the seventh FPSO ship built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) and has the largest quantum and size parameters of its kind in the world.

It has a deck area of 18,000 square meters, equaling that of three standard football pitches, and about 800,000 meters of cables.

The ship is intended to be used as a comprehensive large-scale offshore oil production base integrating functions of oil development, oil and gas separation, oily sewage treatment, power generation, heat supply, and crude oil product storage and transport.

Crews will also live and work on the ship.

It's worth noting that the ship can respond quickly to oil and gas development, and can be built in a short period.

Upon completion, it will serve at the Santos Basin oilfields in the Sao Paulo State of Brazil, and is expected to have the largest output and storage capacities in Brazil's water areas.

MODEC, a leading specialist for FPSO construction, and Statoil ASA, a world-known petroleum company, contributed to construction of the ship. It was the first cooperation of CSSC, MODEC and Statoil ASA.
