Track-laying of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in Indonesia started on April 20 local time, a key step in the railway's construction.
Contracted by STECOL Corporation, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), the project includes the laying of 279.4-kilometers of main track.
A total of 11,810 rails weighing about 35,881 metric tons have been transported to the construction site and the 50-meter-long steel rails will be converted to 500-meter rails with advanced welding technology by China-made equipment.

Linking Jakarta, the capital city, and Bandung, the fourth-largest city in the country, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is a national strategic project and a result of cooperation between China and Indonesia. It is also an iconic project under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The railway has a total length of 142 kilometers and a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
Once operational, it will shorten travel time between the two cities to 40 minutes, forming a fast passenger transport corridor and realizing infrastructure interconnection in affected areas.
It is expected to play a key role in boosting the economic and social development of Indonesia, deepening economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Indonesia and promoting high-quality development of BRI.
