Drilling Tech Platform 'Xuanji' System Entered Large-Scale Industrialization

The "Xuanji" smart production line, China's first smart rotary steerable drilling and random drilling system, was launched on April 20 in Foshan, South China's Guangdong Province, according to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).

The "Xuanji" system was first developed in 2014 and has already realized offshore operation. The recent launch of the production line marked large-scale industrialization of the smart system.

Shang Jie, head of the development project of the "Xuanji" system technology, pointed out that development of the "Xuanji" system is a revolutionary breakthrough in China's petroleum drilling and logging field.

Shang explained that based on the system, the drills can be accurately controlled to target a 0.7-meter-thick oil layer thousands of meters underground and stably move about within it.

Meanwhile, the system can also provide real-time analysis of the stratum, which is expected to help lower costs of oil and natural gas development and improve efficiency of exploitation of marine oil and natural gas resources.
