An innovation alliance for new type power system was launched to better facilitate the country's green energy transition and the nation's ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 in Beijing on Friday.
Consisting of 31 entities, including grid operators, power generation companies, petroleum and chemical companies as well as universities and institutions, the alliance will focus on the development path, technological breakthrough as well as demonstration projects related to the construction of a new power system in China with increasing renewable power penetration.
Members of the alliance include many of the country's traditional energy behemoths-such as State Grid Corp of China, China National Petroleum Corp, China Petroleum and Chemical Corp, and State Power Investment Corp.
In the global energy transition, power will become the backbone of the entire energy system. The distributed energy generation from the renewables, for example the unpredictability of wind and sun, has made the power system more complex.
A company official said the alliance will further boost the high-quality development of the country's energy and power sector.
The alliance will step up the power system's transition while ensuring a steady and secure operation of the nation's industrial chain, said Xin Baoan, chairman of State Grid Corp of China.
The alliance will also further lift the competitiveness of the country's energy and power industry though breakthroughs in key technologies, stimulating innovation and joint efforts to tackle key problems, he said.
In the future, the alliance will mainly focus on the construction of new energy storage, the green energy production and utilization, power and carbon market as well as power demand response, it said.
