China's First Smart Deepsea Oil and Gas Storage Center Put into Operation

Updated: 2022-04-20

China's first smart deepsea oil and gas storage center has been put into operation at China National PetroChina Hainan Wharf in South China's Hainan Province.

It means that the country has basically completed infrastructure construction of a deepsea oil and gas exploration and development supply chain supporting system and it is also expected to play a role in construction of a natural gas field with output of one trillion cubic meters in the South China Sea.

Invested in and built by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the large-scale smart storage center covers an area of nearly 7,000 square meters, the largest of its kind in the world. It  is equipped with world-leading advanced technologies.

Consisting of an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) constant temperature zone, an equipment stereo zone, a pipe stock area and a cantilever constant temperature area, the center is able to provide all-round material storage and delivery services.

The storage capacity of the smart storage center is 1.9 times greater than that before the renovation and standard capsules will be used to store all supplies.

Thanks to the smart storage control system, each manager at the center can operate multiple stockers and AGV vehicles to complete material storage and ferrying, placement and picking-up with high efficiency and precision.

What's more, the scale of management personnel can be reduced by 24 percent compared with the traditional warehousing model, reducing the comprehensive cost of warehousing and logistics by more than 3 million yuan ($472,500).
