Chinese SOEs to Cooperate on LNG Shipment

Updated: 2022-04-07

A videoconference was held on March 17 to deepen cooperation in liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment and guarantee national energy shipment security.

China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group), China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) and China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) participated in the conference via video link, reviewing previous LNG shipment cooperation and analyzing the importance of future LNG shipment security.

The APLNG project was highlighted at the conference. The natural gas trade project was inked between Sinopec Group and Australia Pacific LNG, and is currently the largest LNG project in the country.

COSCO SHIPPING Group, Sinopec Group and the Japanese shipment company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. were jointly responsible for APLNG's transport supporting project. The three companies ordered six LNG vessels from CSSC and the last vessel was delivered for service in May, 2018.

It's worth noting that in 2021, the six vessels completed 81 shipments from Gladstone in Australia to the Chinese ports of Qingdao, Tianjin and Beihai amid the COVID-19 pandemic, transporting 13.42 million cubic meters of LNG weighing 5.66 million metric tons.

The APLNG project has promoted development of the LNG shipment and shipbuilding industries, and boosted connections between relative industries along the LNG industrial chain. It realized cooperation of central SOEs in the petrochemical, shipment and shipbuilding industries and supported national energy shipment security.
