Longest Tunnel of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Dug Through

The No. 6 tunnel of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in Indonesia, the longest tunnel of the railway, was dug through on Feb 18.

With a total length of 4,478 meters, the No. 6 tunnel is the longest single-hole double-lane mountain tunnel of the entire railway.

The tunnel runs under rivers, gullies and villages and has a maximum burial depth of about 96.9 meters.

The area where the tunnel is located has complicated geological conditions, which include volcanic accumulation layer clay, powder clay, mudstone, sandstone and volcanic conglomerate, adding difficulty to construction.

During construction, the company has highly valued localized management and established a scientific and reasonable management training and certification system for builders.

It taught local employees Chinese technologies and has trained more than 1,000 Indonesian skilled workers.

So far, all eight tunnels of the railway contracted by China Railway No.3 Engineering Group Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Railway Group Limited (CREC), have been excavated, key progress in the railway construction.
