The world's first new energy distributed phase modifier cluster was put into operation in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Northwest China's Qinghai Province, with operation of the last three modifiers on Jan 23, 2022.
According to State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Company, the cluster is equipped with 21 phase modifiers and is expected to improve the region's new energy export capacity by 3.5 million kilowatts.
Industrial experts said that the phase modifier serves as a regulator of the power grid and has been widely used in the industry. The project realized the modifier's application in the power source side for the first time.
Home to rich new energies like solar and wind power, Qinghai is well-positioned for new energy-based power generation.
Power sources installed with the small-sized distributed phase modifiers will help stabilize the new energy-based ultra-high-voltage direct current power transmission.
Upon its operation, about 7.02 billion kilowatt-hours of additional new energy-based power are expected to be generated in Qinghai annually.
