The No. 6 generator unit of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)'s Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant in East China's Fujian Province, the world's third and China's second Hualong One-based nuclear generator unit, started full operation on Feb 19.
With all parameters in normal performance, its operation will lay a solid foundation for commercial service of the Hualong One demonstration project.

One of the most accepted third-generation nuclear power models in the current global market, Hualong One is China's third-generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology with completely independent intellectual property rights and is a major achievement of China's nuclear power development.
Based on more than 30 years of experience in nuclear power research, design, construction, operation and management of CNNC, Hualong One meets the latest international nuclear safety requirements.
The No. 5 unit of Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant – the world's first Hualong One reactor, and Karachi K2 generator unit in Pakistan - China's first overseas Hualong One nuclear reactor, were put into commercial operation in 2021.
According to CNNC, each Hualong One unit has an installed capacity of more than 1.16 million kilowatts and can produce nearly 10 billion kWh of power annually, enough for the annual power demands of a moderately developed country with a population of one million.
The annual power generated by a Hualong One unit equals that obtained by burning 3.12 million metric tons of standard coal and can eliminate 8.16 million tons of carbon dioxide, which is of great significance in optimizing China's energy structure, promoting green and low-carbon development and helping to achieve the country's goal of peaking carbon dioxide emission by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.
