Built by Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the Bi Xi Shan carrier is a new-generation dual-fuel carrier with proprietary intellectual property rights.
The vessel is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional fuel oil.

Equipped with two C-type LNG fuel tanks, the carrier has a gas endurance of 20,000 nautical miles, which means it can complete two round trips between China and Australia or one round trip between China and Brazil.
When using the LNG fuel, the carrier has nearly zero emission of particulate matter and sulfides, and its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is 41 percent lower than the baseline, which meets the requirements of the International Maritime Organization's Phase IV Code.
