CTG Makes Key Breakthrough in Renewable Energy Installed Capacity

Updated: 2022-02-21

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) announced that its renewable energy-based installed capacity exceeded 100 million kilowatts by Jan 12, 2022.

According to the company, nearly 70 percent of that renewal energy installed capacity is accounted for by hydropower.

At present, CTG operates the Gezhouba, Three Gorges, Xiangjiaba, Xiluodu, Baihetan and Wudongde hydropower stations along the Yangtze River, five of which are among the world's top 12 of their kind.

It also means that the Yangtze River Basin has become the world's largest clean energy corridor.

The company said that its renewable energy-based power output in 2021 exceeded 340 billion kilowatt-hours, replacing burning of about 100 million metric tons of standard coal and representing a reduction of about 280 million tons of carbon dioxide.

Energy is of two main types: renewable and non-renewable. Renewable energy is derived largely from hydro sources, the sun, wind, biomass consumption, waves, tides, ocean temperature differences and geothermal energy.

It can be recycled in nature and regenerated without human participation.

At present, CTG is providing power from hydro, wind, photovoltaics and other renewable energy sources to nearly 50 countries and regions around the world.
