SOEs & Winter Olympics: CETC Launches China's First 5G Smart Mobile Field Hospital to Support Beijing 2022

Updated: 2022-02-17

A medical information management platform for ice and snow athletes, the first of its kind in China to be based on the 5G-dedicated network, is available to provide medical services for athletes at the ongoing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Wang Xiaoming, project manager of the platform, said that the ice and snow sports are characterized by high risk, high altitude and low temperature, leading to a high probability of injury of athletes. They are often quickly treated by the team doctor when injured and then transferred to a designated hospital for further treatment, which might lead to undesirable delay.

The need to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic adds demand for an accurate medical supporting facility located nearby.

Jointly launched by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) and Beijing DCN Orthopaedic Hospital, the platform acts as a mobile field hospital that can move around and offer quick treatment.

Wang explained that the platform includes CT vehicles, inspection vehicles, dental vehicles, surgery vehicles, negative pressure transfer vehicles and emergency transfer vehicles. It fully meets the medical needs of athletes during training and preparation for competition.

What’s more, the platform is the first of its kind in China to use a dedicated 5G network that links 25 designated hospitals and involves 99 special experts for medical and health care. It can support remote multi-point consultation, realize real-time interoperability between competition venues and the base medical station, transit hospitals and designated hospitals, and connect medical experts with each other.

In addition, athletes' health records, examination results, treatment records and imaging data are shared on the platform, which realizes paperless, mobile, standardized and refined medical care.
