SOEs & Winter Olympics: China Energy Contributes to Green Energy Supply to Beijing 2022

Updated: 2022-02-16

China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy) has been making efforts to supply green and clean energy for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Committing to the mission of a "green, sharing, open and clean" Winter Olympics, it will help ensure that all 12 competition venues adopt green and renewable energy.

To support operation of the venues, China Energy pushed forward development of new energy and water-electrolytic hydrogen production and made full use of hydrogen's role in integrated usage of traditional fossil, renewable and new energies.

The company has also developed wind and solar power stations and contributed to large-scale wind-solar power-based hydrogen demonstration projects to support a green Winter Olympics.

In December 2021, China Energy supplied a total of 72.5 million kilowatt-hours of power in the first green power transactions for the Winter Olympics venues. The event was organized by the Beijing Power Exchange Center and contributed to green power supply for the Winter Olympics venues and supporting service facilities.

China Energy has several wind farms in Zhangjiakou of North China's Hebei Province, which is home to rich wind power.

The Qilinshan Wind Farm, which has an installed capacity of 350.5 megawatts, will be responsible for supplying 28.7 million kilowatt-hours of power for the Olympic venues.

It's worth noting that hydrogen will be a highlight at this year's Winter Olympics and hydrogen vehicles will be the main service vehicles.

Relying on its advantages in new energy hydrogen production including industrial hydrogen production, China Energy developed a hydrogen energy solution to support the Winter Olympics.

The project intends to develop a highly-efficient, safe and reliable large-scale hydrogen production technology based on wind and solar power.

China Energy's hydrogen production station at Tianjiayao Village in Zhangjiakou went into adjustment stage in October 2021.

The project is equipped with a 2-MW photovoltaic power plant, which mainly uses photovoltaic power generation to produce hydrogen during the daytime and wind power generation from the Qilinshan Wind Farm at night to produce hydrogen. It will support green energy supply for the Winter Olympics.

The Wanquan oil-hydrogen-electricity integrated energy station is China Energy's first project directly serving customers. It will also play a role in green hydrogen energy supply for the Winter Olympics.

It has a total hydrogen storage capacity of 960 kilograms and a mobile hydrogen refueling station with a daily refueling capacity of 200 kg.

At present, facilities at the Zhangjiakou competition zone such as the grid-connected converter, energy storage converter, hydrogen production power source, wind power converter, energy storage container and energy storage monitoring system have completed adjustments and the mobile hydrogen refueling station has entered service.
