The world's first smart zero-carbon green energy port system went into operation at the No. 2 container wharf of Tianjin Port on Dec 15.
China COSCO SHIPPING Corporation Limited (COSCO SHIPPING Group)'s subsidiary in Tianjin provides the smart zero-carbon port solution and is the investor and operator of the project.
Construction and operation of the smart green energy port system is an iconic project of COSCO SHIPPING Group's efforts to develop a smart, digital and green port and shipping business.
The Tianjin Port's Beijiang Port Area Section C smart container wharf, the world's first smart zero-carbon wharf, was officially put into operation on Oct 17, 2021. Unlike traditional wharfs, electricity supply of the wharf is based on wind power and photoelectricity, realizing zero carbon dioxide emissions in energy consumption and production.
According to the company, the first phase of the Section C project includes two 4.5-megawatt distributed wind turbines. Located in the green belt on the northern side of the wharf, each of the wind turbines has a tower height of 110 meters and an impeller diameter of 155 meters.
They are expected to be able to generate 23.3 million kilowatts of power annually, an equivalent of a reduction of 20,600 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
In addition, a 1.4 MW photovoltaic power project is now under construction at the Section C port area and is scheduled to be connected to the grid in mid-January, 2022.
