Oil, Gas Production Equivalent at Tarim Oilfield Exceeds 30 Million Tons This Year

Updated: 2021-12-30

As of Dec 11, the oil and gas equivalent of the Tarim Oilfield of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) had exceeded 30 million metric tons in 2021.

The output included over 6.04 million tons of petroleum and 30.07 billion cubic meters of natural gas, an increase of 920,000 tons over the same period last year.

Located in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the Tarim Oilfield is the third-largest oil and gas field in China. One major breakthrough and 12 new discoveries had been achieved, and 17 100-ton wells were built there this year.

The newly-developed facilities in 2021 have crude and natural gas production capacities of 922,000 tons and 2.76 billion cubic meters.. Meanwhile, the success rate of well development and the ratio of high-efficiency wells increased by 1.7 and 6.2 percentage points, respectively, compared with rates from last year.

It's worth noting that eight special development teams were set up to carry out comprehensive management of old oil and gas fields.

CNPC staff members at the oilfield overcame challenges of ultra-deep and complex oil and gas exploration and development and developed a series of well-drilling technologies, leading to the construction of the country's largest ultra-deep oil and gas production base.

As a main gas source of the country's West-to-East gas transmission project, the Tarim Oilfield with 538 wells is currently supplying 95 million cubic meters of gas per day to the downstream regions. So far this year, about 23.49 billion cubic meters of gas had been transmitted to East China and 4.83 billion cubic meters of gas to southern Xinjiang, driving economic and social development and ensuring national energy security.
