The Cairo West 650-megawatt supercritical thermal cycle project, which has the largest unit installed capacity of its kind in Egypt, was given the taking-over acceptance certificate (TOAC) from its buyer on Dec 13, bringing a close to its construction.
The project was built by China Energy Engineering Group Jiangsu No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. Later, the company will continue to play a role in the warranty period of the plant.

Located in a northwestern suburb of Cairo, capital of Egypt, the project includes construction of a 650-MW supercritical thermal power generator unit based on oil and gas mixed energy.
Compared with coal-fired boilers, the unit has a faster start-up speed and lower concentration of air pollutant emissions.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate about 2 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually, which will effectively relieve power and energy shortages and meet the increasing power demands in the region.
