CNOOC's role in Iraqi primary schooling

The Burzgan Primary School of Maysan in Iraq holds a couple of big events every year. During them employees of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), often come and bring students toys, books and food and teach them fire safety and how to prevent damage from lightning.

Established in 2005, the Burzgan Primary School is the only school near the Maysan oil field. CNOOC Iraq Limited started exploitation of the oil field in 2011 and has supported the school ever since.

In 2012, the company restored the school infrastructure and built well-equipped toilets and a basketball court. In April 2013, the company linked the school with the power grid of the oil field project.

The company also improved roads around the school, bringing great convenience to students and nearby residents.

The school president said that over the past years the Chinese enterprise has provided huge support to the school, including restoration of the campus and construction of various facilities.

At present, the school has six classrooms and 53 students and the teaching condition is continuously improving with help of the company.
