When Chinese state-owned enterprises develop overseas markets, they actively push forward local education development in regions where their projects are launched through building schools, donating books and teaching facilities and setting up scholarships.
CNBM builds school in Zambia
China National Building Material Group Co., Ltd. (CNBM) launched the Zambia Industrial Park in 2015. Located about 30 kilometers southeast of Lusaka, capital of Zambia, the park has provided various kinds of building materials for the Zambian market, contributing to development of the local economy.
While focusing on the project the company also fulfilled its social responsibility and implemented a number of projects for public benefit in the area near the industrial park.
CNBM invested and built a primary school for the Nachitete Village, which was put into operation in March 2017. It has 18 classrooms and eight staff dormitories. The company also bought 150 suites of desks and chairs for the school.
The head of the village recalled that soon after it was completed villagers visited it and expressed their gratitude to the Chinese enterprise.
With CNBM's help the school was later included in the national education system so that students from grade one to seven were able to receive free education.
At present, there are more than 400 students at the school including many children from neighboring villages.
In addition to building the school, CNBM also constructed a hospital, solar energy lighting facilities and a water supply and drainage system for the village. In addition, it built a highway connecting the village and the southern industrial zone of Lusaka.
