China-Russia Center Breaks Ground in SCODA

Updated: 2021-12-17

The China-Russia Center recently broke ground in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Area (SCODA) with the Administrative Commission of SCODA, SCO Development Group and Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) having reached agreement on the project.

The China-Russia Center project is designed by POWERCHINA's Kunming Engineering Corporation Limited and will be built and operated by its Sinohydro Bureau 6 Co., Ltd. Its design includes elements of modern technology and traditional Russian culture.

The project will cover an area of about 47 mu (3.13 hectares) and will contain several sections like a Russian central business district, an intercontinental alliance liaison office, space for an enterprise alliance, a China-Russia cultural tourism area and a China-Russia scientific and technological cooperation area.

The center is expected to use enterprise cooperation to promote industrial chain project cooperation between China and Russia and become an important platform to serve development of the two countries.

SCODA was established in Qingdao, Shandong Province, in 2019. It is intended to become a platform for international cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen connectivity between China and other SCO countries.

Construction of the China-Russia Center project will optimize the investment and trade environment in SCODA and integrate high-quality Russian business resources for in-depth industrial chain cooperation with Chinese enterprises. It is also expected to evolve into an information headquarters for investment cooperation between the two countries, a gathering place for Russian enterprises in China and a platform and bridge for the two countries' cultural tourism and scientific and technological cooperation.
