Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) won the bid for the project on Feb 17, 2011 with a contract valued at $323 million.

The main part of the project included construction of an 11-kilometer overhead double-lane light rail line and eight stations.

Once operational, a ring subway line will be formed on both banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. It is expected that nearly 800,000 passengers will take the line every day, a great improvement over the current situation. The line will play a key role in relieving local public transport congestion.
