The Taweelah seawater desalination project in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the largest of its kind that is still under construction in the world, recently succeeded in producing qualified drinking water.
The UAE is facing a severe water shortage, with per capita water resources of only 900 cubic meters. At the same time, it also has high water consumption.
As the economy is developing rapidly in the UAE, the water shortage has become a bottleneck that hinders the country's sustainable economic development.
As the largest of its kind in the world, the desalination project is equipped with the most advanced reverse osmosis desalination technology.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to be able to produce 900,000 metric tons of water, meeting water demand for nearly 2 million local residents, relieving the water shortage in the UAE and benefiting economic and social development in the region.
The project is generally contracted by SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China.
