CTG's Cumulative Installed Capacity Exceeds 100 Million

Updated: 2021-11-16

The accumulated installed capacity of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has exceeded 100 million kilowatts, as the company's hydropower and wind power projects are in full swing to guarantee China's power supplies.

Clean energy installed capacity was more than 96 million kW, accounting for about 96 percent of the total output of CTG, representing a step forward to its goal of evolving into a world leading clean energy group while contributing to the country's green development and its goal of reaching peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

On Nov 8, the fifth megawatt generator unit of CTG's Baihetan Hydropower Station located on the border of Southwest China's Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, the world's second-largest hydropower station, went into service after a 72-hour trial operation period, adding green momentum to power supplies for this winter and the upcoming spring.

So far, nearly one-third of the station's generator units are in operation and four of them have stably operated for more than 100 days.

Meanwhile, the Yangjiang Shapa Offshore Wind Farm in South China's Guangdong Province, China's first million-kW offshore wind farm in the South China Sea, achieved a production capacity of 440,000 kW

With a total installed capacity of 1.7 million kW, the farm has 269 large-capacity wind turbines that can provide about 4.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, an equivalent reduction of about 1.5 million metric tons of standard coal and about 4 million tons of carbon dioxide.

The monthly power output of CTG reached a historic high in both September and October this year. It's worth noting that 49.5 billion kWh of power were produced in September, contributing to the country's power security and supplies.
