Updated: 2021-11-05

Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) will join hands with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. to provide a smart storage system to support construction of a global clean energy and green economic center in Saudi Arabia.

At the Global Digital Power Summit 2021, SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of POWERCHINA, and Huawei's digital energy technology branch signed an agreement to provide a smart storage system to the new town by the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia based on China-developed technologies.

The public service infrastructure project is a key part of the country's Vision 2030 and will be the first large-scale infrastructure integral project that has been built by the Chinese enterprise in the country.

Covering 28,000 square kilometers, the project will be the largest battery storage facility in the world, capable of storing as much as 1,300 megawatts of power, which will meet all power demands of the Red Sea Coast tourism area.

The project aims to build the world's first city equipped with a multi-energy complementary system. The city is expected to be driven by power completely generated from new energy in the future.

Focused on clean energy utilization and environmental protection, the project mainly depends on green and pollution-free energy supply, which includes modules like photovoltaic power, energy storage, power grid, sea water desalination, water supply pipeline network, sewage pipeline network and treatment, solid waste treatment, communication and regional cooling systems.

It will help form a new lifestyle and explore new economic growth points under the background of the current situation of decreasing petroleum resources.
