China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) announced on Oct 8 that its Fuling shale gas field had produced more than 40 billion cubic meters of shale gas, a record for cumulative shale gas production in China.
At present, the gas field can produce nearly 20 million cbm of shale gas daily, meeting demand for 40 million households, which ensures the country's energy security and contributes to its goal of reaching peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.
Located in Southwest China's Chongqing, the Fuling shale gas field was able to produce 10 billion cbm of shale gas in 2017 and is now the sixth-largest natural gas field in China, a key source of the gas transmission project from Southwest China to East China and a major resource base for Sinopec Group's gas project of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
In order to develop shale gas, which has been a challenge for many countries, Sinopec Group developed five special exploitation technologies that are appropriate to the Fuling shale gas field, realizing effective development of gas reserves 3,500 to 4,000 meters under ground.
The company also developed its own development equipment and built the gas field into a leading base for shale gas production, research and talent cultivation in China, setting an example for global shale gas development.
