China-Laos Railway Completes All Ballastless Track Construction

Updated: 2021-10-29

Construction of all ballastless tracks was completed as the last roadbed slab of the Jingzhai Tunnel finished concreting, laying a solid foundation for its operation at the end of this year.

As the last key section of the China-Laos Railway, the Jingzhai Tunnel is a 9.5-kilometer single-direction tunnel with a maximum speed limit of 160 kilometers per hour.

Starting from Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, the China-Laos Railway stretches more than 1000 kilometers through Yuxi, Puer, the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and Mohan Port, and terminates at Vientiane, capital of Laos.

Once operational, it will take passengers only three hours to travel between Kunming and Jinghong in Yunnan and about 12 hours to go from Kunming to Vientiane.
