China's first all-G.654E terrestrial trunk optical cable linking Shanghai and Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong Province has been completed by China Telecom Corporation Limited (China Telecom).
With a total length of 1,970 kilometers, the cable has ultra-low-loss capacity and a large effective area thanks to its use of a new type of optical fiber.
With the new cable, China Telecom completed the first network test of commercial 400Gb/s ultra-long WDM transmission equipment in China and realized electrodeless relay transmission covering more than 1,900 kilometers.

In the test, China Telecom, together with Huawei, ZTE and FiberHome, configured several environments to test systematic differences between G.654E and G.652D fiber environments.
The result showed that electrodeless relay transmission between Shanghai and Guangzhou can be realized at several speeds, including 100G, 200G, and 400G, in a G.654E optical fiber environment. The performance was stable for 12 continuous hours without any errors during the three-week test.
China Telecom's construction of the cable will promote the development of the G.654E industrial chain and contribute to the construction of a green and low-carbon full optical fiber cable network in China.
